NBA Lockout, affect on last year’s and this year’s draft and players
If the NBA lockout continues and there is no NBA season how will that affect the draft, and rookies already drafted into the NBA who didn’t play this year? Unfortunately, this is a problem that incoming rookies have this year as more players are thinking about their options if ever the lockout continues all the way to next year. What exactly are there options of the NBA lockout proceeds into 2012? Here are a few options that incoming rookies have.

Stay in college
This is of course the most obvious answer as most players who want to go to the NBA don’t ever make it to their senior year in college. This is because the money is already being offered to them and who in their right mind would give up millions of dollars and fame? Since the lockout will not be able to give these upcoming players that option, this can be a great way for the player to still get an education and at the same time have a fall back if ever the NBA just is not what the future holds for him.
Play overseas
Sadly, there are some players in college who are good enough for the NBA and won’t be allpro players, yet they are in their senior season in college. The best way for them to continue their basketball career is by playing over seas in a different country. This is a great way for a player to stay in shape and at the same time still gain experience with the game of basketball. This is a great for most players to get stronger, faster and at the same time faster so that when the NBA is back, they will be able to finally be ready. Sadly, this age might be too old and who knows what the future will truly hold once these players reach a certain age. For years people have been complaining about players leaving college too early and unfortunately for this player, he will be leaving college to late.
Find a job
Some players in college just are not built for the NBA and they will then have to face real life situations. This happens all too often and it seems like these players who don’t make it have no idea what to do with their lives. They most likely never listened in school and they were banking their whole life on basketball. This is the mistake that most athletes make and the future of our generation would be better if we just focused more on education and not chasing dreams like the NBA. For our future to strive, the next generation should be pushed to learn and not to dunk a basketball or play football in the near future.
The Patient And Quite Spurs
It can be argued that beside maybe the Lakers, there has been no better run team then the San Antonio Spurs. From the coaches to the owners to the general managers, the Spurs have been at the top of the NBA for the past 13 years. With four championships and two more Conference Final appearances, you can say that the Spurs have been one of the most dominant teams in sports during that time span.

With that said, though, nobody, and we mean nobody, expected what has happened this season in San Antonio. With all of the attention centered on teams like Miami, Boston and Los Angeles, the Spurs have quietly posted not only the best record in the NBA, but also the best record in their franchise history. With less then a third of the season left, they lead the Western Conference by six games, a near insurmountable lead.
Yet, even with all of that said, the San Antonio Spurs are once again
Bulls increase their Division lead on the Pacers
The Bulls PG had to shake off his sloppy shooting & his club’s sloppy energy on defense versus the Bobcats, & he answered with twenty-nine points & ten boards during a 99 – 86 victory against the Pacers on Friday evening. Chicago had been leading Charlotte 80 – 75 having 8 minutes left on Wednesday evening prior to going to pieces on the defensive end during the last moments. The Bulls kept the Pacers to 33 % from the floor. Rose put in 5 for 17 from the floor versus the Bobcats, however 11 for 21 versus the Pacers. Pistons looking for their first road win vs the injured Clippers
Returning from a winless set of away games, the injured Clippers are trying to find ways to enhance their 3rd quarter efficiency. The Pistons are as well. Beginning a home stretch part of its schedule, Los Angeles attempts to break a 4 game losing skid Friday & prolong Detroit’s worst road start in fifteen years.

The Clippers, 1 defeat shy of their 2nd 1-9 beginning 3 years, play eleven of the following sixteen games at Staples Center, however they are coming back from an 0-4 journey which was much more expensive than losses included with their record. Top scorer Eric Gordon, who’s getting 21.1 ppg, hurt his left shoulder Read the rest of this entry »
New Knicks vs the Chicago Bulls
The 1-2 New York Knicks are coming into the home of the Chicago Bulls (at 2-1) coming off of two straight losses and the pronouncement by their starting PG, Raymond Felton, that they aren’t quite gelling just yet. This is good news for the younger Chicago Bulls, winners of two straight, as the Knicks have historically struggled in the UC. The game will showcase newcomer and prized offseason acquisition, Amare Stoudemire, as he looks to bully his way down low and into a smaller Bulls front court. Without Carlos Boozer, out with a broken hand, and the smaller Taj Gibson filling in the components for a Knick upset via an Amare takeover are all there. But it won’t be that easy.

The Knicks have been plagued by consistency issues all Read the rest of this entry »
NBA Dominic McGuire player review
McGuire, who is probably glad to be leaving the turmoil at Washington behind, spent his first three seasons in the league playing less and less as each year passed. Add in the Gilbert Arenas debacle, and it’s a pretty safe bet he is hoping for greener pastures a little farther South. He did start in 2008 for 57 games, but soon felt he was not getting the minutes he could.
McGuire does add some size to the Bobcats, and although McGuire was known as a prolific shot blocker while in college, he did not really affect the game consistently will playing for the Wizards. Thus far in the preseason, he’s been getting those blocks again.
McGuire isn’t the kind of player who pours in a ton of scoring, even though he’s capable of throwing up double-doubles now and then. He’s really a versatile player that can get some points and moves well without the ball. The real question mark with him playing the small forward spot is that he’s never been known for a consistent sport up jump shot. McGuire is, unfortunately at this point in his young career, a player who can nail a deep shot on one trip down the floor and then throw up a brick on the very next trip.
He’s not a ball handler by any stretch of the imagination, and the reality is that he’s a converted post player. He looks to get to the rim, initiate contact and put himself on the free throw line, all classic moves by a veteran post player.
However, where McGuire really shows his abilities is that he can guard multiple positions on defense, not just in the post. He is effective even at defending on the perimeter against quicker guards and shooters. The caveat is that he can also defend in the paint, although he’s not a center. His size is useful in the post but he’s more athletic than a lot of true big men, and that athleticism is what allows him to guard smaller players on the outside wings.
NBA MVP Predictions
Bob Pettit of the St. Louis Hawks was the recipient of the first MVP award at the conclusion of the 1955-56 season. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the award six times, the most of any player. Michael Jordan and Bill Russell, with five apiece, are tied for second.
LeBron James, now with the Miami Heat, has won the last two MVP awards, both while a member of his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Steve Nash of Phoenix and Tim Duncan of San Antonio have also won the award twice, and they, along with James, are the only three current players to win the award more than once. Other currently active players who’ve been the MVP are; Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal.
James has to be considered among the favorites to capture the 2010-11 award, although only three players have won the award three consecutive times; Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird. Other likely candidates
are Bryant, Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo. A few players to keep an eye on as potential dark horses are, Danny Granger, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, Derrick Rose and Deron Williams.
James probably won’t score as many points as in the past because he has a better supporting cast. This may also cause his new teammate, Wade, to have lesser numbers. Bryant is always a candidate, but he’s coming off his least productive season in several. However, he may be motivated by this and come back even stronger. Nowitzki is certainly capable of big numbers. Anthony may not have the surrounding talent to allow him to put up big points, but is assuredly a candidate. Durant is the defending scoring champ, and that’s always a factor in MVP voting. Howard might be the logical successor to James, especially if the Magic go far in the postseason. Paul and Rondo would have to have monster seasons. The darkhorse candidates would have to have exceptional seasons plus have their teams go deep into the playoffs.
With all this being said, the five leading candidates appear to be; LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Dirk Nowitzki.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra under scrutiny
The fact that Erik Spoelstra happens to be under scrutiny should come as a surprise to no one. The President of Basketball Operations for the Miami Heat, Pat Riley was willing to fire a coach like Stan Van Gundy just to have the chance to come back and coach Shaquille O’Neal and Dwayne Wade. Can you imagine the temptation of being able to coach again when it comes to LeBron James, Dwayne and Chris Bosh now together. Sure, the Heat’s roster under Van Gundy had some other great players on it too such as James Posey, Jason Williams and Alonzo Mourning, but the roster on that team is nowhere near as stacked as the currenty Miami Heat roster.
Erik Spoelstra has had a good deal of success as head coach of the Miami Heat especially with young players like Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers, but with LeBron James promising three, maybe four NBA Championships in five years to some media outlets the bar has been risen. Pat Riley was the coach during the beginning of the Showtime Era in Los Angeles with the Lakers so you have to assume that he wants to relive some of that past glory in a way with James, Bosh and Wade.
The fact that the Heat signed the likes of Mike Miller in order to come off the bench makes it even more tempting for Riley to come back and coach. Miller can not only shoot the three, but he can also put the ball on the floor with a nice mid range game as well. The fact that Mike Miller has a good mid range game is something that could help Erik Spoelstra out as he tries to find a way to make sure his team doesn’t get off to a bad start. Erik has been with Pat Riley for a lot of years and learned quite a bit from him, but the same can be said for Stan Van Gundy who was fired fairly quickly after the Heat got off to a bad start following the acquisition of Shaq and others like the veteran, but still serviceable Gary Payton.
The main thing that Erik Spoelstra may have to worry about as head coach of the Heat is how exactly he will successful mold all of the different personalities on that team that will not be a part of the winning formula in Miami.
The Harlem Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters are one of the world’s most entertaining travelling shows. The team plays exhibition games all over the world, drawing huge crowds and serving as ambassadors for the game of basketball.
The roots of the team go back to 1926 in Chicago, Ill. Originally, they played primarily for sponsors as enticements for dances and concerts held after the game. In 1928, a booking agent, Abe Saperstein, arranged a tour for the team through midwestern states. Although the tour was a financial success, several original members weren’t happy with the extensive traveling and when they protested, Saperstein, in an arrangement with the players, took over the organization.
